Last Saturday, Pastor Robert Jeffress made headlines in his introduction of Governor Rick Perry at the Value Voters Summit. Pastor Jeffress claimed Mitt Romney was a not a true Christian as Mormonism is a cult. The press went crazy! Even conservatives called the man a bigot. While there has been much discussion about the political ramifications of this statement, there has been little discussion about the real issue at hand – was Jeffress right? Is Mormonism actually a cult?
I think after you download this week’s Understanding Our Times podcast you will be left with only one conclusion – Mormonism is a cult. We have freedom of religion in our country, so Governor Romney is certainly entitled to his belief, but he is not entitled to take on a historical label that has a clear definition.
In this latest podcast I sit down with Pastor Dan Gibson of Janesville, WI (Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church) and define what a cult really is a just how Mormonism is radically opposed to the Biblical doctrines of the orthodox, historic Christian faith. Pastor Gibson has a unique perspective on this topic as he was once a leader within the Mormon church before coming to a true saving faith in Christ.

Ever since his campaign for President it seems as though there has always been one issue that will not go away – is Barack Obama Constitutionally qualified to be President? The “birther movement” seemed to grow larger and larger the longer Candidate and then President Obama refused to release his long form birth certificate as proof of his natural born citizenship as necessitated by the Article Two of the Constitution. We even did a broadcast about it with World Net Daily reporter Joe Kovacs.
Much of this speculation died down last month when the President finally released his birth certificate. Some believe this was to quiet Presidential hopeful Donald Trump, but others believe it may have been to squash the publication of an upcoming book, Where’s the Birth Certificate by World Net Daily’s Jerome Corsi.
Yet, this birth certificate did not only stop the publication of Corsi’s book, it didn’t even squash the nagging Constitutional questions posed by the birthers. Dr. Corsi was quick to question the legitimacy of this newly released birth certificate. In fact Dr. Corsi calls it an outright fraud.
Is Barak Obama constitutionally eligible to be President? Is his birth certificate a fraud? We will talk about this and much more as we welcome New York Times best-selling author Jerome Corsi to our podcast to talk about his book, Where's the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama Is Not Eligible To Be President.
Jerome R. Corsi received a Ph.D. from Harvard University in political science in 1972. He is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling books THE OBAMA NATION: LEFTIST POLITICS AND THE CULT OF PERSONALITY and the co-author of UNFIT FOR COMMAND: SWIFT BOAT VETERANS SPEAK OUT AGAINST JOHN KERRY. He is also the author of AMERICA FOR SALE, THE LATE GREAT U.S.A., and the co-author of SHOWDOWN WITH NUCLEAR IRAN all New York Times Bestsellers. Currently, Dr. Corsi is a Senior Managing Director in the Financial Services Group at Gilford Securities as well as a senior staff writer for WorldNetDaily.com.

This week we pick up where we left off last week as we discuss how the Tina Anderson case has impacted the world of fundamentalism. The case has gained national attention through a recent 20/20 segment aired on ABC which has left many wondering about fundamentalism in general. This case has attracted so much attention that last week's podcast was actually unavailable for a little while because we had so many listeners we actuallt exceeded our monthy allotment of bandwith! I'd like to thank our guest Darrell Dow of Stuff Fundies like who graciously helped out by making the podcast available on his website.
Again joining us this week will be Darrell Dow, a graduate from Pensacola Christian College and editor of the Stuff Fundies Like blog. Joshua Caucutt, who graduated from and worked for Maranatha Baptist Bible College, is also joining us for the discussion. Josh operates the Sound Church blog. Of course, our host Kevin Thompson (also a PCC graduate), would include himself in the former fundamentalist category.
This week listen in as we discuss such topics as the is there a network within the fundamentalist churches and what to do after having left fundamentalism.
